OBITUARY.
[Per Press Association*.! NAPIEIi, Dec. 15. The death is announced of Mrs M'Kinnon, one of the oldest settlers of the district. She and her husband settled at Arapawanui in 1863, and have lived there ever since. The deceased was seventy-four years ' ° ' HOKITIKA, Dec. 15. The death is reported of Mr. John E. Ryan, a young settler of Southern Westland. Mrs Mary Piper, wife of Mr Henry Piper, of Duvauchelle's, died yesterday morning, at the ago of sixty-one. Deceased came out with her father and four sisters in 1855, to Lyttelton, in the ship Caroline Agnes, coming on to Aka.roa at once to her uncle, the late Captain Bruce. She was married in- 1859, to Mr Piper, and leaves a family of five sons,-four of whom have settled in the North Island, and one has the homestead at, Duvauchelles. About three years ago, she was seized with a paralytic stroke, and fincc then has been confined t°> her couch, though previously enjoying robust health. The deceased lady was*very highly esteemed, and will be mourned by a large circle of friends.
