THE LOCAL OPTION POLL.
THE KAIAPOI RE-COUNT. The result of th-e re-count of the Kaiapoi local option poll is ns follows:—Continuance 1601, reduction 2132, no-license 2319, informal 51, number of voters whose votes -were recorded 3936. The figures show a difference of eight votes Against reduction, and a difference of 2 2-5 votes? in favour of no-license, compared' with the first count, so things remain as at first stated. Reduction "is carried by 164 votes, and nolicenso lost by 43. [From Otth Cokrespoxdkxt.] DUNEDIN, Dec. 10. A petition was lodged at Milton yesterday challenging the result of the local optica poll for Bruce, and asking for an inquiry. The petition, which was lodged by Mr Donald Boid, a solicitor, is on much the same lines as that lodged in. Port'Chalmers, but if anything, move sweeping. Tltfe recount for Bruce is being taken to-day. I do not expect it will affect the result. [Per I'lUis.s Association.] DUNEDIN, Dec. 10. A united thanksgiving service was held to-night, under the auspices of the Council of Churches, for the- result of the local option polls. The inquiry into the alleged irregularities in conducting tlio local option poll at Cayersham wiifbe. held by Mr E. 11. Carew, S.M., on Friday, Dec. 19. Mr C. C. Graham S.M., will hold tin* inquiry into tha alleged irregularities in the Chalmers local option poll on the same day. After the recount to-day, prohibition was declared carried in Bruce electorate by 31 votes. The numbers are:—Voters 3901, prohibition 2372. A petition has been lodged, asking for an inquiry into alleged irregularities.
