[Per Press Association.] THAMES, Oct. 8. Mr Thomas Dunlop, a well-known mine manager and chairman of the County Council, is likely to contest the 'Thames seat against the Hon J. M'Gowan. WHANGAREI, Oct. 8. Mr R. Thompson, the present member for Marsden, is tho only candidate announced at present. Mr J. Ivess, a candidate for the Selwyn seat, addressed a well-attended meeting at Bealey on Tuesday night. Mr Fletcher occupied the chair. The candidate declared himself a strong supporter of the Government. He favoured the elective executive, referendum, lease in perpetuity, the completion of the main lines to a paying point, and the extension! of technical education.. On the motion of Mr Fletcher, the candidate was awarded ai vote of thanks. It is 'understood that Mr • John Studholme, jun., has .decided to contest the Ashburton seat., Mr Henry Willis has withdrawn. Mr Rennie will address the electors of Courtenay, at Kirwee, on Saturday, at Prebbleton, on Tuesday, and at Templeton on Thursday. • Mr Charles Lewis will address the electors of Courtenay at Lincoln on Monday next, Greendale on Tuesday, Halkett on Wednesday, and Aylesbury on Thursday. Mr C. A. C. Hardy, the member for Selwyn, will open his election campaign on Tuesday evening by addressing a public meeting at Dunsandel.
