TO THE EDITOR. (Sir, I had the misfortune to walk through *he reserve 'between Manchester and Madras Street 'Bridges, known as "'Barker Avenue," last evening with a, friend, a gentleman, as it happened. We ■were walking along carelessly, when suddenly our feet refused to move. On coming to examine the cause, -we found that we

were embedded in the middle of a large pool of mud which the City Council had seen, fit to deposit in. the centre of the path. The'condition of our boots is better imagined than described. We also had a narrow escape from a similar experience later on. Now, I wish to protest against- the action of the City Councill in placing pitfalls like this for unwary innocents; or, if they w:ll not desist from this, they might at ..least leave a few boot 'brushes alongside' each pool of mud to remove "the stains■« of travel" from the injured hoots of their, victims. —I am, etc., ONE WHO HAS FALLEN M.
