A PEOPLE'S POLITICIAN.

TO THE EDITOE. Sir, —I was very pleased to read in Saturday's issue of your paper youn remarks about Mr Ell. lam quite sure that he thoroughlv deserves all the good things you said about him. I hear that a certain.' section of the community have given him the cold' shoulder, as instance their having a meeting on the same evening as he was addressing the electors in Canterbury Hall. Just Janey the .same party holding a weekly meeting and Mr T. E. Taylor addressing the electors. Why, there would 1 fee no one there. They would be all gone to (hear Mr Taylor. (But Mr (Ell need not be the least bit down-hearted about it, as I am sure that he has the sympathy of every rightthinking man and woman in the city. You yourself bear witness to the fact that he has devoted 'himself with remarkable zeal to his work as a (Parliamentary representative. Honest, earnest and industrious, what more would some people like? Princes and kings are but the breath of men; an honest man is the noblest work of God. Mr Ell has the courage of his convictions. He is true to .himself, and it follows as a natural sequence that he cannot then be false to any other man. That he has the good of the .people at heart ds a fact .patent to all. Mr 'Ell has been to Wellington and come baok, but it has not puffed him up to think that he is any better than anyone else because he has "CM.H.R." to his name. I venture to .predict for him, if spared, a good and useful career. The only pity is that we have not more like him.—l am, etc., ■'• A WELL-WISHER.
