The weather is extremely unpleasant, a hot northerly wind blowing and the temperature being 103 in the shade. Disastrous bush fires are raging in many ■districts. ' Taylor's Westfield Estate, at Kilmore, was swept, and the wool-shed, with many late sheep, including a number of valuable stud rams, destroyed. Great damage was done on the Macedon State Nursery.

Busih fires are general throughout the colony. Several houses and a number of tents 'have been 'destroyed: at Lawson. An immense area of grass has been destroyed between Gundagai and Junee. Shipping is impeded, smok© e'hroudiing the coast. Useful rain has been falling in the city since noori.
