ANGLING.
' The, toout-fisbimg season opened yesterday, with . the , accompaniment of a bright moon and a gentle ■ breeze. A good number of fishermen were at work on the Avon at the tick of midnight, and as morning broke their numbers increased, ■until at breakfast-time about-70 rods were threshing the stream in the upper reaches. Although the river is remarkably well stocked with good sizeable fish, there were no good baskets reported, and, indeed, many of the anglers returned home without even getting a decent rise. The ''black gnat" is spoken of as being the most successful flv in the Avon waters.
Anglers report that the south., branch of the Ashburtori River is in. splendid-order, and-, some big baskets have been made. The fish are small, but in good, condition.
