HOCKEY,

The Executive Committee of the Hockey Association held several meetings during the past week in connection with the interprovincial match to he ployed on Thursday at Sydenham Park. The Entertainment Committee has drawn out a programme which includes a smoke concert, dirag. excursion, and 'the New South Wales football match on Wednesday afternoon. The Christchurch Club will entertain the United Club at a dinner on Saturday evening, while Kaiapoi is also making preparations for entertaining the Karori and Wellington Clubs during the week. The trial match on.'Saturday saw several good pieces •of passing and clever stick play, and both teams played a consistent game under the eye of the selectors. The influenza epidemic Wasthe cause of several vacancies dn the teams. Grifiin, the centre half, was unable to play, and he has ‘ lost his place in the representative team in consequence. Ghappel was the probable goal-keeper, but like his club-mate, has fallen out for the same reason. The A team won by four goals to nil, Adams, Gunn, Ford and Jacobs scoring. Mr Walter Johnson was referee, and had charge of the game under the new rules, which appeared to bo a decided improvement. The following were selected to represent Canterbury against Wellington in the interprovincial match:—Goal, W. Robson; backs, R. Strange and G. C. Hunter ; halves, H. ■ Oram, H. G. Davies and’ Blackwell; forwards, R. W. Barry, Patrick, H. Millidhamp, J. H. Jacobs, and E. R. Ford. Emergencies: Bull, Campbell, Loe, Griffin, Vincent, N. Strange, V. Gunn, and Clark. The team will meet this evening at the City Hall to elect a captain and transact other business.

On Saturday afternoon a match was played on Kaiapoi Park between the TeKoraha and Kaiapoi Ladies teams, and after a very close and exciting gam© ended in a draw, both teams scoring two goals. Mr C. Bennett was referee.
