A public, meeting of farmers will be held »b the Templteton School on Thursday .evening next, to discuss the.question of forming a branch of the Farmers’ Union, when addresses will be delivered by Mr J. G. Glass, the Organising Secretary of the Union, and others. An adjourned meeting will! be held at the Bolleston Hotel on Monday, at 7.30 p.m., to consider the question of erecting saleyards ait Rolleston. The United; Friendly Societies will hold • social gathering in the Canterbury Hall on Sept. S, when there will be ai programme including vocal and instrumental music and dancing. A meeting of Executive officers and delegates will be held in the Temperance Hall, Gloucester Street, on Friday, evening 'next at eight o’clock. The programme for the instrumental concert to be given in aid of the funds of the Stanmore Band, on Thursday evening next, is advertised in this issue. The, full programme for 'the Labour Day Demonstration Sports, to be held at Lancaster Park on Oct. 9, is advertisedi in this issue, together with the conditions under which, the events will be carried out. The Spiritual Scientists platform, in the Social Hall, will be occupied) on Sunday evening by Mr Roberts, whose subject will be “Does the World Work too Much?” Mr W. W. Collins will lecture in the Lyceum to-morrow evening on “ Disappearing Landmarks.
