A CURIOUS MISHAP. " United Press Association—By Electrio ' Telegraph—Copyright. ’ ADELAIDE, August 23. The schooner Rotuma has arrived, leaking badly. The leak was caused hy the ■word of a swordfish penetrating the Vestel’s timber. [Per Peess Association.] AUCKLAND, August 23. The Coroner held an inquest on the remains of a man, name unknown, whose remains were - found on the Waitakerei ranges a,few days ago. Dr Lewis said) that the remains were those of a male adult about -thirty years,of age, and had been lying .there about three years. The jury, after (tearing the evidence of other witnesses, returned a verdict that deceased, name unknown, had committed suicide some time in 1898. ■ .PALMERSTON NORTH, August 23. A young man named Harold Knight, aged twenty-one years, a son of Mr Thomas J Knight, an old settler here, accidentally ■hot himself at his parents’ residence tMs morning. The deceased was shot Sin the head. ; DUNEDIN, August . 23. The ; man killed on the railway is believed to be P. Healey, of Gore.
