CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, August 23. (Before Mr E. O’Ormor, J.P., and Mi Rrudlhioie, J.P.) Drunkenness.— A first offender was fined 5s and' costs.—-N oah Norwood, who presented a. battered appearance, was fined £l, i in default seven days’ imprisonment. Obscene -Language.— Kate Moore, an old offender, was charged with using obscene language in ■ Hagley Park, and otherwise misconducting herself. Accused said she was nob dn the habit of using such language, and maintained her -innocence. After the evidence of the Police, accused was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. . , Breaking and Entering. —Martha Ash and Mahel Bend were charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Edward Hack, and stealing bread, jam, and a table knife, of the total value of 2s 6d. On the applioaitioni. of the Police, accused, were remanded! till ' Tuesday next, hail being allowed. Hawking Without a License.— William Gregor was fined 10s and costs for carrying on the business of a hawker in Cashel Street, Christchurch, without being dulylicensed. Accused stated he had been unable to obtain a license. Prohibition Order. —A prohibition order wan issued against a man, on the application of his -wife. Insulting Language.— The case in which Margery Ann Lambert charges John, Brookes with using insulting language towards her, at St Albans, was adjourned to August 30, Mr Malley appearing for informant and Mr Hoban for the defendant. A By-law Case.— Cutbbert Bowyer was charged with leaving a horse and It rap. unattended in Worcester Street, for a period, of more than five minutes on July 29. Accused raised several technical objections to the prosecution, but the Bench decided to inflict a fine of 20 and costs. About to Desert. —A young woman named Catherine Eberbardib was charged with being about to.desert her child, but on promising Mr H. W. On the first charge accused was fined 5s and 3s costs, on that of assault 20s and 2 costs, and on the other was convicted and discharged.
