THE DESTRUCTOR.
TO THE EDITOR, Sir,—May I be permitted through your columns to offer a suggestion for practically dealing with the available steam power from the destructor? Up to the present, the public are not aware of any scheme having been recommended 1 for adoption by the Council, but tenders are now being called for the erection of the destructor buildings. It must be assumed that the generated surplus steam will be available for application to some useful and practical purpose when the destructor commences operations. Now, there are many and various means of applying the accumulated power. The Councillors'do nob: assume to be experts, and are unaccustomed to dealing in these matters, while at the same time theremay be many individuals in the city well up in these subjects, who do net care to enter i?» the contest with Councillors, but who, if given an opportunity to place their views in a practical form,, might formulate a scheme to the interests of the ratepayers. For these reasons I would respectfully sug gest to the Council the advisability of offer-
ing a substantial bonus, to be paid to' the individual who submits. a, scheme that .the Council could adopt for practical_applica,tion to the above purpose. —I am, etc., AN OUTSIDER.
