NEWS BOYS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Often during the past few -weeks 1 have watched many bright, intelligent boys, vendors oi our evening news, shivering in the cold, bitter winds, and soaked' to the skin -with the heavy winter rains, thinly clad, no over-coat, let alone oil-skins, to keep them dry and: warm. Many of thesa poor ,lads are the principal bread winners of some poor widowed home. And this j in the twentieth century, in a land c-f civilisation and boasted religion and democracy. To allow such a state of things ito exist is a shame and a disgrace. '.Whatiis* wanted is that thei civio authorities should build shelter sheds for the lads, and a committee of Christian, kind-hearted men and I women to see to..their wants in providing overcoats or oilskins in web -weather, with a good hob cup of coff.ae and a bun at times in the worst of the- weather. A meeting hall where they could read good books, and get good advice would not' be out of place either. Introduce a little happiness into their lives; they will be. the better for it in after-life.—l am, etc.', *J JULIUS PARKER.
