TEACHERS APPOINTMENTS.
TO THK EDITOR. Sir, —In your issue of August 20, I read with astonishment, and some amusement, a letter on the above topic signed "The Whaup." When a teacher is capable of writing such a passage as this :—" Then he has the delightful task of truckling to men whom he despises, and flattering fools, etc," surely he cannot expect the consideration usually accorded to a logical and fairminded man. It seems to me that " Teachers Amok" would be a better title for his letter tham the one he has 'taken. Before ho again indulges in a semi-burlesque tirade, let " The Whaup" make himself conversant wjth the Education Act, and he will then see that committeemen are no more interlopers than the teachers are. Does " The Whaup " think any merchant would engage a clerk without a personal interview? No, not even if he had a recommendation from the institution where he was trained. Committeemen do not, as a rule, encourage canvassing, though they like an opportunity to see selected candidates, remembering the adaige of "a pig in a poke."—l am, etc., THE CURLEW.
