Paris, August 20. The death is announced of M. Audran, a composer of comic opera. (Edmund Audran, the operatic composer, was born in, Lyons im 1842. In 1861 he took up his residence in Marseilles with his father, who was himself a noted!musician, and became chapel master at the Church of St Joseph. He subsequently produced in theatres in' Marseilles a number of comic operas and operettas, the principal of which were “L’Ours et la Pacha,” “La Ohercheuse do i’Esprib,” “La Nivemais,” and “Le Petit Poucet.” He was best known to English audiences as composer of the music of “La Mascotte ” and “ Olivette.”. His music is mostly of a light mature, but a Mass from bis pen was given with success in Marseilles and Paris. He has also published a number of songs and musical compositions.)
[Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, August 21. Mr Thomas Secular, of the firm of Messrs Scoular and Archibald, who erected the Government Buildings in Wellington, died here this morning.
