A PLOT FRUSTRATED.

INTRIGUES IN FRANCE. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, August 20

General Andre, the Minister of War, states that one of the Pretenders to the French throne tried to seduce the Army Corps Commanders from their duty, but the Commanders revealed his intrigues.

(Per R.M.S. Sierra at Auckland.) SAN FRANCISCO, August ,1

A cable message to the “ Sun ” from Paris says that the moment s'carcely seems opportune for the Orleanists to try to cause trouble,' but there is no doubt that the French Government believes that something is afoot, and is on the alert. Special reports have been ordered from the agents of the Government in nearly every capital in Europe, and a strict surveillance is being instituted over the leading Orleanists in France. The Duke of Orleans is on board his yacht in the Mediterranean, on which he keeps a veritable court. The crew is armed, and the officers weair swords and uniforms similar to those worn in the French Navy. The officers and men wear medals bearing the arms of the Royal House, which are also about the yacht. The vessel carries breech-loading and machine guns. In London the “Pall Mall Gazette” publishes a communication from its Paris correspondent, giving details of an alleged conspiracy to overthrow the Republic, and place Prince Louis Napoleon on the throne as Emperor. It is stated that Sept. 14, when the Czar intends to promote Prince Louis to a full generalship in the Russian Army, has been chosen as the occasion for a demonstration to support the claims of this Prince, who is a close friend of the Emperor of Russia, by all the elements opposed to the present regime. The names of M. Deroulede, the Marquis de Lunsaluces and M. Marcel Habert are mentioned 1 as the leading spirits of the movement, and several high functionaries of the present Government are said to be assisting it with funds.
