QUESTION OF OLD AGE PENSIONS. ' A HEATED DEBATE. United Press Association—By Slectnn ■ Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, August 3. In the Federal House of Representatives the representatives of th* Labour Party raised a tempest over the old age pensions proposals, which formed a plank in Mr Barton's election manifesto, and was affirmed in the Governor-General's Speech. The members accused the Premier of loading his programme with measures which he never intended to propose. . Mr Barton replied that nothing could be dome until the end of the book-keeping period. As this shelved the question to anything from five to ten years, the Labour representatives became angry, and wished to force a division. Mr Barton declined to accept a,ny instruction to prepare a Bill immediately. In order to allow the feeling to cool, the debate was adjourned.
