CHRISTCHURCH LIEFERTAFEL.
■+ • The annual meeting of the Liedertafel Society was held! last evening, in Hobbs’s Buildings. The President, Mr W. Izard, was in the chair, and there was a , good attendance. The Honorary Secretary, Mr T. H. Barnett, read the sixteenth annual report. The committee had pleasure in stating that the financial position of the Sodety was a little better than at the beginning of the season just ended, the balance to credit of profit and loss' being £39 19s sd, in addition to which the value of the library made the assets of the Liedertafel somewhere about £IOO, with’ liabilities ail. The average of attendance at practices bad not been good, only a little over 75 per cent, and this although members had only,been called on for thirty-two practices during the year. The committee strongly omphasdsed the fact that the first essential to success in' concerted music was regular practice, and tliey sincerely hoped that amendment in this direction would be ehown in .the new season. Six concerts hod been given during the year, in addition io which a special concert was given in the Industrial Exhibition on Dec. 14. In *ll, fifty-two different part songs and cantatas had been performed, fifteen of which were new to the Society. The committee wish to place on record their appreciation of the cervices of the late Mr E. S. Harley •nd their regret at his death. The report and! balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected :—President, Mr W. Izard; conductor, Mr F. M. Wallace ; and honorary secretary, treasurer and librarian, Mr T. H. ‘ Barnett. Messrs Appleby, Barfcas, Day, Evans and Morris were orieoted to act on the committee. Votes •f fihankawere passed to the office-bearers, **d the meeting closed.
