[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, July 17.

At the midday call of the Stock Exchange,' to-day, the -Chairman,' Mr G. A. mttue, referred to the disclaimer of the, Dunedin Stock Exchange as to having taken the initiative in the matter of the proposed amendment of the Stamp Act. Correspondence received showed, ho said, that, the initiative in the mavter was'-taken by the Du-ftcdin -Excnarge, and now they -were trying lo throw (he onus upon the Government. If the Government had simply taken the matter up, then he fc.t that the Government had acted very wrongly in ignoring 'the Auckland Exchange entirely. He certainly thought they ought to resent the action of the Dunedin Exchange in this matter) in first taking the initiative and then seeking id cast the 'blame upon the Government. He thought that the 'Auckland Exchange had acted wisely in deciding in favour of no alteration in the -Stamp Act, but if the Government decided to do ao, the various exchanges of the colony should be consuliec].
