CONCILIATION BOARD.

THE FROZEN MEAT INDUSTRY. A sitting of the Conciliation Board wil! be held in Ohristchurch next Monday to hear the case cited against the two meat companies in Ohristchurch by the Canterbury Freezers Indusf&ial Union of Workers. The statemenD of claim asks that the 1 rates of jpay shall be as follows:—Is 3d per hour between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.; Is 9d before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. Casual labour Is 6d between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and 2s beforo 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m., and the head storeman Is 6d, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and 2s before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m., with double time for. Sundays and certain holidays.. The statement also asks that no freezers should be required to work outside at a lower rate of pay while work is going on in the. chambers ; that no casual labour 'should be employed when permanent men are not working eight hours per day; that no sub-con-tracting should be allowed; that fifteen minutes'. A statement has also' been filed by tie United Furniture Trades Union of Ohristchurch, for hearing before the Conciliation Board, and the following Ohristchurch employers have been cited:—F. Beckenham,, A. AndeTscu and J. Radcliffe, all of Timaru; Manchester Bros, and Goldsmith, Waimate; J. Moore, Waimate; T. H. Undrill, Ashburton; F. Beri, . Temuka; E. L. Feiton, Rangiora; H. Banston, Ashburton; and W. Weston, Kaiapoi. The Union asks that forty-fcur hours shall constitute a week's work, that the minimum wage for cabinetmakers] upholsterers, tumors, framemakers, polishers and machinists shall be £3 per week, with overtime bsiween 5 p.m. and 7.3 C p.m., and time and a quarter till 9 p.m. ; that double time shall be paid'on Sunday! and certain ' holidays, ' apprentices and journeymen, alone to be recognised, apprentices to be indentured for five years, in the proportion of one to every three journeymen ; that no picca work shall be permitted; that preference shall be given t< unionists, and that any journeyman in capable of earning the minimum wage shali be paid such lesser wage a s shall be agreec upon between such journeyman and a com nixttee of unionists and employers.
