LAND BOARD.

A meeting of the Canterbury Land Board was..held .on-'Wednesday ; present—Messrs. S. Weetman' (Commissioner of . Crowns Lands),, R. MereiMth,.M.H.K.,. J,-APLach- : • ian f “’M.iLli., «taad J. Sealy. The Board’ txamaced applicants for the Raihcliff settlement and Tarawahi Hamlet leases, and for Raincliff 18 were admitted to ballot, 1 sihd for Tarawahi Jl. At'the conclusion;.of the examinations Mr Weetman again re-1 corded his dissent against admitting 1 single mm, or men without families, to the ballot,. It was decided to take the ballot on ■ Thursday. The fallowing applications for exchange from perpetual lease to lease in perpetuity, all in Reserve 1128, Block 16, Waimate, were granted 1 : Simpion, Section 6, 20 acres; Susannah Simp : son. Section 13, 20 acres- Jane Logan, Section 19, 10 acres; and Arthur J. Logan, Section 21, 10 acres. It was decided' toissue freehold titles to J; W. Ashby, Lots. 104-5, Reserve 350, Rangitata, and Mrs' 'J.; Baxter, R.S. Sdaß, : Rdapnija. A namBer of applications fpr transfer of leases «nd licenses were dealt with. ’. It 'was decided to grant H. James a yearly tenancy over an estimated area of 5 acres in Kowaa riverbed, at a rental of £1 .per annum. The Board ■decided) not to grant a reduction of rent to Irwin O’Lonnell, Tengawai, River-bed, bn account of rabitting expenses. It was also decided that a reduction could not be granted' to Messrs Ley and Aitken,- Opilii riverbed, on account of floods. The Board decided' to recommend that a renewal of tenancy for three years should be grunted to. Philip Stratford, - Reserve 2704, Opihi River. J. Meehan 1 was given notice, that slaughtering within. Valley, the'Board resolved, on the expiration of the, existing lease, to offs* a tenancy of the land to the adjoining owner at a rental cf 2s 6d per annum, conditional upon the preservation of the bush. Rhodes for crown land within Rural Sections 3133 and 3699, near Temuka, were considered, and it was re■Bolved to recommend that' the - land should be invested in the Temuka Borough Council, conditional upon right of access across the land being reserved to the. adjoining owners. The application of D. Buddo, M.H.R., for tenancy of part of Ashley riverbed, adjoining R.S. 10012, area •bout 20 acres, at a rental of £1 .per annum, was granted. ' The tender of S. C. Mullan, for lease of 87 acres 1 rood in Walau Lip Reserve, at an annual rental Of £27 5s 4d, for twelve years and a half, was accepted.
