THE LINCOLN ROAD DRAIN.
At a meeting of the Hospital Board ye*« terday a letter was read from the Ergonee* and Secretary of the Christchurch .Drainage Board', stating, in reply to a letter from the Hospital Board, that the Health. Officer (Dr Symes) was cd: opinion that, from a sanitary point of view, the drain! ," was better left open than closed. It was -stated "in the tatter that the chief of" tW. hospital medical staff was also of opuikcr that there wara no danger to health from the drain in its present condition, and thfr •writer thought that >that was obvious to" anyone acquainted with tlio circumstance* of the case. The Drainage Board not see its way to incur any .farther expenditur* on the dTain, as no benefit would! thereby ensue. The Chairmiaai stated tfhafc the whole of the drain should be covered. If ib wa* necessary to cover a portion, ib was neoe»» sary to cover th© whole of it. The in* mates of the Nurses' Homo had ooa.plain* ed about it. It was decided, on the motion -ot£ Mf W. Rollitt, seconded; by,Mr Hamilboci,(thai j the Draimage Board should be requested! to insist on the covering of that portion of the drain which is a)fe [present urfiovercd, as at present ii was & menace to the health of >thie patienta and staff of tie Jhio* ■' pital.'
