A meeting of mine owners and mining companies’ representatives was held this afternoon. Nearly all the companies’cited in the recent hearing of t)he : dispute before the Conciliation. Board were represented. As a result of the meeting the following resolutions were carried unanimously :—“ (1) That representatives of companies shall refer the matter of appeal by cable to their principals, with a recommendation that tie case be taken to the Arbitration Court; (2) that this meeting endorse the action of MiBrown, of the Kom-ata Beefs Goldmining Company, and: pledges itself to give him all moral and actual support possible to prevent a system of single-hammer work in the mines being abolished.” It was further de cided to form a Mine Representatives’ Association, and the necessary initiatory steps were taken. With regard to the first resolution, it is understood .that as,soon as the award! of the Board was made known some, of the companies’ representatives cabled home to their principals on the lines of tike resolution. | CONCILIATION BOARD. The Wellington Concaliafi-on Board resumed its inquiry to-day into the printers’ machinists’ dispute. A number of country employers who had been cited, protested against inclusion in the dispute. The Board decided that .newspaper owners at Stratford, Hawera, and Opunake should not be included. ARBITRATION COURT. DUNEDIN, June 24. At the Arbitration Com:, Mr Justice Cooper , gave a decision in the case of the millers. ~ He said that lie felt compelled to follow the Christchurch agreement, and again expressed regret that that agreement had been , made. Undar the circumstances, the Court could not place the men in any better position than they are in under the Christchurch agreement. The awai-d was ipadc to expire on the same day as the Christchurch, agreement, and when the time came, possibly the WhoCe matter might come again before the Court-.
