BOROUGH COUNCIL.

RANGIORA. = The monthly meeting of the Rangiora Borough. Council was held on Friday evening. There were present the Mayor (Mr J, Sansom) and Councillors Good, Keir, Hills, Wilson, Jennings, Relph and Carmichael. Leave of absence for the! meeting was granted) to Councillors Bell and Foster. A letter was read from the Commissioner of Police refusing the Council’s application to have a strip of laud half a chain wide at the back of the police section re-conveyed to Sir W. B. Perceval for the purpose of having the same converted into a right-of-way. The Paymaster-General wrote that £2 10s of fines collected in the Magistrate’s Court had been paid to the borough fund. Mr Reynolds, 0.E., wrote that he would be in Rangiora about July 4, and would then confer with the Council with reference to a water supply for the town. A recommendation from the Works Committee that the public pound should be rebuilt was held over until next meeting. On the recommendation of thp Finance Committee, it was decided to increase the Town Clerk’s salary £25 per year. The receipts for the month were reported to be £l2B 19s 9d, and the hank credit balance £47212s Id. Accounts amounting to £72 3s 9d were passed for payment. It was decided to put down a fire well nearly opposite the Plough Hotel at once. Councillors Goodi and Jennings were appointed to sign the rate roll.
