THE BY-ELECTION.
It is understood that Mr T. E. Taylor hag definitely decided not 'to stand! for th© vacant Chris'tohuroh seat, as "business engagements will prevent has doing so. Although several names halve been mentioned as likely candidates, so far as.can be ascertained only two are dJefinitely out — Mr A. H. Turnbull will stand in the Liberal interest, and t!he' ballot taken by the Trades and Labour Council amongst tie Trades Unions has resulted in favour of Mr C. Taylor, who stood in the Labour interest at last general election but was defeated. • A meeting of Mr Charles Taylor's friends and supporters will ba held on Thursday, June 27, at 8 p.m., din the Trades Hall. ' The speciad meeting of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council wag held in the Trades Hall last night, the president, Mr J. A. McCulloughi, in the chair. Th© meeting was called for tihe purpose of receiving ballot-papers for the •selection! of a Labour candidate. The result of the 'ballot was decidedly in favour of Mr Charles Taylor. Mr C, Taylor, "in a short speech, returned thanks for the vote of renewed confidence in him. It was decided to call a meeting of friends and supporters to be held on Thursday next in the Trades Hall.
