CHRISTCHURCH POULTRY CLUB.

■ANNUAL SHOW. The Grand National Championship Show of the Ohristchurch Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club was opened yesterday afternoon. The show, which is being held in Tattersall's spacious wool store in Cashel Street, is the largest exhibition of the kind ever held in New Zealand.' The entries in the poultry section are particularly heavy, totalling 956. The pigeons number 235, canaries 150, and pets bring up the grand total to 1365. The representative character of the show may be gathered from a perusal of the list of exhibitors. All the most prominent breeders in Christchurch are represented, and in addition to ■this, large numbers of entries have been sent from nearly every district in the South Island, aa well as from several parts of the North Island. In the poultry section,- one of vh.e features is the splendid show of Leghorns, 144 specimens of this favourite breed being exhibited, and out of this large entry there is scarcely a bad bird. Next in point of numbers comes Wyandottes, which have advanced in favour very rapidly during the last few* years. The four classes for Minorcas have all attracted large entries, including the pick of the yards of all the leading fanciers in the South Island. The handsome Game is well represented, the chief feature in this portion being the fine lot of Indian game birds that are exhibited. Orpingtons, black and buff, also make a goodly show, and a general improvement is noticeable in the quality of this comparatively new, but very popular variety. Another breed strongly in evidence is the Hamburg, and there is a good exhibition of this pretty variety. Pigeons do not make such a good show as could have been wished. Tumblers, as usual, are well represented, but *he entry in some of the other breeds is disappointing. The show of canaries is made up, chiefly, of a fine, lot of the Norwich variety, of good all-round quality, including a number from Otago. The exhibition of dressed poultry is. one of the finest seen in Christchurch, and it is doubtful if it has ever been excelled in the colony. There was a large attendance last night. The show will remain open till the end of the week. In the show are the interesting stands of Mr Edwin Reilly, Willowbank Poultry Farm, Studholme—who exhibits Mann's bone and clover cutters, grit crushers and other accessories of the poultry-keeper—-and Mi* R. T. Clarke, Ashburton, who shows Petalinna incubators and brooders in operation, besides other appliances. Visitors to the show this evening will see chickens being hatched in the incubator. The following is the prize-list:— POULTRY. Judges: Mr Ambrose Johnstone—Dorkings, Cochins, Brahmas, Langshans, Plymouth ■ Rocks, Orpingtons, Houdans, Wyandottes and Anconas. Mr F.
