ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

[Pes Press Association.] PALMERSTON NORTH, June 19. A man named Jens Larsen, a labourer, aged fifty-two years, died suddenly yestfrday afternoon. An inquest was held today, when a : verdict was returned to the effect that the deceased died from sudden failure of the heart's action. The deceased leaves a wife and ten children. DUNEDIN, Juno 19. Andrew Anderson, who was admittedto the hospital a week ago suffering from injuries" sustained through falling througn a bridge on the railway line at Purakariui, died last night. He leaves a widow and family, , DUNEDIN, June 19. At the inquest on John Rhodes, killed on the railway at the cattle yards, a verdict was returned of accidental death, no blame being attached to anyone. The men working on l the line, of whom' deceased was one, were sheltering from the wind on the lee side of a tank, while waiting for the train. They crossed the line to the platform as tho train was approaching. Two got over safely, but deceased was struck by the cowcatcher, caught by one of the relief cocks of tho cylinder, and dragged along. Deceased was thirty-four years "of'age, married, with one child. On Monday evening, Mr Gissack, at Little River, was ridden down, by one of three) horsemen, who. were galloping along the main .road in the direction of the bays. Mr Gissack was thrown into a ditch at the roadside, and lay there until a resident, driving past? and hearing groans, came to his aid and drove him home. The extent of Mr Gissack's injuries were not known when the mail left. The police are on the track of the horsemen, who are • supposed to have coin© by the train on Monday evening., It is said that .visitors irom the bays arc in the habit, on reaching .Little River, of mounting, their horses and taking the road at a mad gallop, to the danger of pedestrians. A young man named Frank Tievurza, Wakanui, met with am accident on Tuesday, which. _ may have serious results. While trying to drive a horse over a wat<sr-race it lashed out and kicked him on the forehead,, fracturing his skull.
