In response to tire advertised invitation, Trinity Hall was filled last night with the political friends and .supporters of Messrs ISniiith and Taylor, 'Mr W. (Millar -was voted to the chair. Air G. j. Smith announced thalfc he had' decided nob to contest the. present Iby-election, After some discussion.-the following,, resolution wag passed unanimously :— r That this meeting requests (Mr T. .E. Taylor to contest the forthcoming by-election, and plediges itself to do everything in its power to secure his return.” ■ 'Mr Taylor promised to give' a definite answer in Thursday morning’s papers, and the meeting then adjourned till 'jLuruxsday evening..
