ROYALTY AT LYTTELTON.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —As the Duke and Duchess of York arrive in Lyttelton on June 22, I would like to ask his Worship the Mayor and the Chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour, Board, who are the undesirable® in Lyttelton who are 'ineligible to see the - Duke. And I would like to • ask why the ratepayers of Lyttelton have not been asked if we were not agreeable to, spending any money on the reception of the Duke. It strikes me that the Mayor and Town Clerk run Lyttelton, independent of the ratepayers. When it is all summed up we have to pay the dollars, and our Worship the Mayor will have his open carriage in Christchurch at the borough’s expense-., As an old native and a popular man, I would ask Lyttelton not, at any price, to make a demonstration. —I am, etc a A WORKING MAN. ,
