BOROUGH COUNCILS.
AKAROA. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council was held on Wednesday last; present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr H. C. Orbell), and Councillors Taylor, Checkley, Newton, Munro, Lelievre, Eamshaw and Mottram. Mr E. Jones wrote, applying for a carrier’s license, which was granted. Mr Hewitt, contractor for the reservoir, applied for an extension of time, which was granted. The Bank of New Zealand 1 wrote regarding the alteration of accounts under the new Municipal Corporations Act. It was resolved that the Council’s account be opened as requested. The financial report showed 1 receipts since last meeting to have been £6 8s; accounts presented for payment ■amounted to £2a 5s sd. This being the last meeting of the Council, the Mayor, on behalf of the burgesses, thanked the Councillors for the careful and efficient manner in which they had performed, their duties. The Mayor, on behalf of his wife, thanked the Council for the handsome present made to her as a souvenir of turning the first sod of the waterworks.
