CONGREGATIONAL UNION.

The Council resumed its sittings yesterday morning, in Trinity Church, with a debate on “ The Cultivation of a True Missionary Spirit.’’ The subject was introduced by the Rev W. Day, of Auckland. Several other members took part. The business of the Council was taken at 10.50 a.m., the Rev J. Reed Glasson presiding. The committee appointed to investigate Le Boa’s Bay Church property presented its report, and it was resolved—” That Messrs W. H. Lyon and A. W. Beaven should be authorised to consult with Mr H. Y. Widdowsoti, and ascertain the Union’s legal rights in regard to this property, and take such further action as they may be advised, including a reply to those sending the petition.” The Council then met in committee, for the consideration of finance. . The Treasurer of the Union (Mr W. H. Lyon) presented his annual report. After a discussion the report was adopted.

It was resolved that Mr James Wilkinson should be appointed to the vacancy on the Pastors’ Provident Fund Board. The Council resumed at three o’clock yesterday afternoon, when the Rev A. Hodge, of Dunedin, read a pauper on “Loyalty to our own Church and ‘Denomination. —How to Foister,” and a discussion followed. In the evening, the annual “ Home Missionary Meeting ” was hcH in Trinity Church. The Rev J. Reed Glasson was in the chair. The Rev H. W. J. Miller, of Napier, gave a historical review of organised home missionary effort since 1842, and the Rev C. E. Davidson, of Maungataroto, gave a racy and most interesting account of his work in the north of Auckland. The Council will meet again at 10.30 a.m. to-day, and in the afternoon: the delegates will be entertained at a garden, party at Mr J. E. Baker’s residence, Papanui. Inthe evening a young people’s meeting will be held in Linwood Church, Ferry Road.
