CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING-. Play in connection -with the Canterbury Championship Meoting was commenced on Saturday afternoon. A heavy shower fell at" two o'clock, and consequently play was postponed until hall-past three. The rain did not • materially afreet tho Courts, which by four o'clock were in excellent order. Tho .attendance wa3 small, ' vnth tho exception of ten or twelve-all present Tbeing players. Tbo following aro tho results of to-day's play: MEN'S HANDICAP DOUBLES—'Second round: Jackson and Ballaityne receive 4-6 15 beat Scott and Izard' receive -4-G 15, 6-3, 6-3. ITEM'S HANDICAP SINGLES—First round: F. M. B. Fisher owe 13 3-6 beat S. Hurst-Seager receive 15, 6-4, 6-1. LADIES' HANDICAP DOUBLES—First round: Misses .Berkeley and Graham recoivo 15 3-6 beat. Misses Meadows and Dryden i'e- ' ceive IS 2-6, 6-5, 6-2.; Misses Kiverand .Tameson acr beat Mrs 'Stevens and Mlso K. Tan Asch scr, 6-5, 1-6, 6-3. Tho meeting will bo continued during the! ' week.
