THE NEW HEBRIDES.
FRENCH ANNEXATION. United Press Association—By Electric T elegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, Feb. 15. Mr John Higgiuson, a prominent member of the New Hebrides Company, is on a visit to Sydney. In an interview, be said be did not think there was any chance of France giving up the New Hebrides for an adequate concession -elsewhere. Ho denied that the French were using unfair menus to acquire land in the New Hebrides. He claimed the right- of the French Government to tbe Islands, on the grounds that French settlers were there when the English were merely traders and preaclieie. It was practically a French settlement, and it would be best for everybody if it were under tbe French flag. He suggested that it should be made a condition of annexation by France that she should adopt an open door policy.
