MARKET REPORTS.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE. The weather during the past few clays has been-favour-able for harvesting operations, and farmers have been taking advantage of it, and are working long hours to secure their crops. Wheat is turning out a very good yield, but many growers persist in threshing straight out of stock, which, in a season like the present, is a very doubtful proceeding. Several lines have alreadybeen placed on the market, but merchants are not anxious to operate, as some of the ' samples show signs of sweating, and would therefore be totally unfit for keeping or export. A little old wheat has been taken for Auckland at-quotations, andl a couple . small lines of new Pearl has changed hands on the basis of 2s 3d. A fair amount of barley is offering, but maltsters are well stocked, and as some of the parcels are discoloured and thin, they are not inclined ro buy. ■ Oats are coming, forward steadily, but in the absence of a present outlet, They, are somewhat neglected; but it is hoped that with the initiationi of a direct line of steamers with South African ports, a regular demand may spring up. Several good-sized lines of Canadians have changed hands on the basis of Is 6d. Early potatoes are enquired for at 50s, and axe already being shipped. New, oats comiiig to band are on the soft side, and opening quotations have not yet been fixed. No reliable quotations can therefore be given for oats.
