Seddon's recent slalemenl in Brisbane that he would not tolerate militarism and nonproducers. Surely New Zealand's voracious lust for military glory ought to he satisfied ere this, for alt-bough Lord Roberts in his recent review of the. campaign did not menlion a- solitary -New Zealander as worthy of commendation, yet we have had enough of their heroic doings from . tin: troopers themselves to lass a. lifetime. You informed us the other day that yen had no jingoistic yearning for military glory, yet you .have done your best for the past rixioen months to foster the military spirit, in this colony. You know a great many people came out to this colony to escape the hard conditions' which exist in -the Old! Country, yet rofi are going the nearest u a,y u> bring us to the same state. You once sho\ud us bow it wa'i possible for you to "fc? Imperialist as well as Socialist iu your views will you also explain, as a'Socialist, how you approve of an army of non-producers being established in the country, and one also that is to he at- the beck and 1 call of the Government of a degenerate race? A'tbougb you have uwd -gallons of ink in reviling the Boers and praising the English, you appear to be getting tired of it, in this “wearisome and inglorious war.*’ Surely, as this war is to be, and has been, a. terrible curse to the English, the less you foster this wretched jingoism the better.—[ am, etc.. COLONIAL TRTEHMAN. (We da not approve of an army of non-pro-ducers being established in this ccunlrv.— Ed. “ L.T.”)
