THE LIP-BITING CASE.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,—There' have been many comments upon the inadequate punishment awarded to 1 the accused in this case. It must always be remembered that tjre convicting Stipendiary cannot justify his action in the matter through, the public prints. Those outside who have not the evidence ;uid police report before them should not. nor ought not, to criticise Mr Beetham's judgment. To attempt to review his judgment is like gilding refined gold. Personally, I feel quite well assured Mr Bee)ham, in giving his sentence, administered what he always does, fitruc and honest justice tempered with mercy. We should be very fortunate indeed if all justices administered and held the scales of justice in the same manner as Mr Bcctha-ra always does.—l am, etc.. MICHAEjL. HART.,
