HIS OVERLAND JOURNEY[From Our Correspondent.] CHEVIOT, Feb. 14. His Excellency the Governor visited Cheviot yesterday, on his way to Bien? heim. The members of the County Council met him at the Hurunui Bridge and escorted him into the, t ownship, where he became the guest of Mr W. T. Robinson. In Lord Ranfuiiy was driven down to the port by Mr A. W- Rutherford, accompanied by the councillors, and in the evening he was present in the Town Hall at a gathering of settlers. Owing to the death of the Queen he was not able bo take part in any public function, but he seemed pleased at the opportunity afforded him of having a chat, with the settlers individually, and in conversation expressed himself highly gratified with the appearance of the settlement and at the progress made. This morning, Lord Ranfurly crossed the Waiau,.on his way north. He will call at Men dip Hills station and lunch with’ Mr Rutherford.
