THE LITE MR H. R. WEBB.

The funeral of the late Mr H. R Webb took place yesterday afternoon. The respect and esteem m which Mr Webb was held, was ‘evidenced by the large number of friends who attended the funeral, and by the overwhelming profusion of wreaths and floral tributes. . - There were present members of the Canterbury College Board of Governors, of which body the deceased gentleman was chairman, representatives from the Education Board, Canterbury College, the Boys’ High School, Christ’s College, together with many personal friends. Three carnages containing the near friends and relatives of the deceased followed the hearse. Then came the High School monitors, as representing the . boys, together with the masters of the Boys’ High School. A large number of carnages followed. ' The following’ gentlemen were present among those who attended the funeral: Messrs W; Chrystall, TVS. Weston, T. S. Foster,. C. S. Howard, R. Westenra, T. W. Adams, H. J. Berwick, T. Hughes, G. W. Russell, M.H.R., Canon Harper, and the Hon William .Montgomery, members of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College; Professor Cook, Professor Wall, Dr Bendy, Captain Hutton, Professor Scott, Dr Evans, members of the Professorial Staff; Mr A. Crocxoft Wilson, Registrar, and Messrs G. H. Mason, E. Evans, and J. Crummy, office staff; Mr A. E. Flower, representing the Canterbury College Students ; Mr C. E. Bevan-Brown, headmaster of the Boys’ Sigh School, Messrs B. K. S. Lawrence, 0. T. J. Alpers, R. Speight, R. Laing, W. Walton, and other masters of the school; Mr G. H. The service in the church r. at tho grave was conducted by the Rev Airay Watson, assisted by the Rev Caw Knowles. The coffin was borne into G church and to the grave by six of the so of the deceased, the Hon d. i. Peace' and Mr R. E. MacDcugall following as c 1.;., mourners. ,

The vestry of the ■ Merivale Parish, at their meeting held on Tuesday afternoon, passed the following resolution—“ That the Merivalo Parish' Vestry hear with deep regret- of the death of Mr H. R. _ Webb.. The-"- desire to place on record their sense of the nreat loss this parish and the Church of th'is'diocese has sustained in the decease of one of the oldest members, who, in the offices of lay-reader, churchwarden, member of General and Diocesan Synod??, as also in connection with educational P.nd other works, so long and so faithfully served the higher interests of this colony. They further desire to tender to Mrs Webb and the members of her family their Warmest sympathy with them in their bereavement.” ■
