The No Town Gold Dredging Company has decided to put a dredge on its claim with all possible speed and tenders have been called for the building of the pontoons. Large quantities of machinery for different dredges are arriving almost daily at Greymouth and Hokitika. Several consignments have been lauded this week for the Erickson’s Reward. Ahaura, Greenstone and Greenstone Junction dredges. . . The .manager of the-Golden Blocks mine, Collingwood, reports that the battery worked twenty-four days, crushing 200 tons and obtaining 4220 z melted gold. , The secretary of th e Leviathan Gold Dredging Company has received the following wire from the Greymouth director;—Return from two parcels amalgam, 60oz smelted gold. This means that the return of Jan. 26, -SOoz lOdwti amalgam, and of Feb. -9, -SBoz amalgam, making a total of 138oZ lOdWt amalgam, produced 60oz gold. Mr S. Pacha has resigned his position as master of the "Waipuna dredge. Ths Leviathan return of SOoz of amalgam.

yielding' 30oz of gold, shows that the new tables .are treating the„-sand, successfully. Gold weighing 3700 m, of the value of £14,350, was brought down from Reefton on Saturday by Mr Ferens, manager of the National Bank at Reefton, to be shipped to London. The Inangahua Junction dredge, the return from which was 12oz for ninety hours’ work, has had much to contend with in the floods on the Buller, but work is now proceeding steadily. The result's from the Golden Fleece mine (Reefton) for January were;—Battery, 7filoz gold; 1236 tons cyanide, 12ooz gold; total value, £3221. The results of the boring experiments on the Greenstone Company’s claim have hot, yet been made known, but it is rumoured on the Coast that the prospects : obtained have proved the ground to be of a highly payable nature. The District Court will sit in the now ce!e- ! brated Foley’s Creek salting case on Friday next. ' The “ Greymouth • Star ” ‘ states that this', week’s dredging returns for the Coast will not be large.' Nelson Creek may bs looked forward to to give a good yield, and possibly the Leviathan will come next, but neither the Grey River nor Dobson No. 2 are expected to give big returns, the machines having been; stopped several times. The Waipuna will possibly get a start again next week. 1 ..'The Pa-otolus dredge will probably be completed and at work in about ten diys..--'; The' claim is just below the Nelson Creek, and the ground is believed by miners to contain rich gold. The Greenstone Creek dredge, should be completed; -in three weeks time, providing"-the buckets, elevator trays and steam pipes arrive in time. The Greenstone Junction dredge is also wed advanced, and will commence work about the same 'time. The Nelson- Creek correspondent of the "Grey Argus” states -that there-is a number ■of claims near Nelson -Creek that should soon make a start, such as the Aiding a, Victory, Trafalgar, No. 2 and No. 3 Ractolus. These claims are all prospected and proved to be highly payable. The engineer has been on the ground for the Trafalgar for. a. considerable time. The Trafalgar Company intend to start carting timber next week. This claim is very favourably situated,_ and should turn out to be a first-class dredging property. ' At -a meeting of the .promoters of Lock’s Pjeehol-d (Prospecting Syndicate, ’held in Goldsborough, Messrs Hanrahan, Johansen -and Monyifaan were appointed trustees to. prepare specifications for sinking a -shaft, to report at next meeting. .* The Waipuna dredge is still idle, and wiu probably not resume operations until the middle of next week. The directors are visiting the dredge to inspect the machinery, which is believed to be Slightly strained. The bow of the dredge is up on the shingle bank, and the work of getting the dredge back into the stream will occupy a few days. ; The Greymouth correspondent of the « otago Daily Times ’’ complains that the last return of the Nelson Creek dredge (490 z for 136 hours’ work) was again kept secret, and states that the people in the Greymouth dia-'tvi-'t are complaining loudly "of the secrecy of the Dunedin directors. He also says that the dredge is working well and putting through large quantities of stuff. There is an opinion; that the yield will improve as the dredge gets up stream, where ‘the main Nelson Creek lead should he crossed. . , ■ The Dobson No, 2 dredge la now steadily, working up stream, and a. better return should bo obtained this week. . , ■! The Leviathan dredge is working better now thqn for some time past, but some alterations; will have to be made. The dredge should ba, in good working ground next week. The Molyneux Hydraulic Company ha 9. declared a dividend -of Is per share. The Hartley-and Riley dredge resumed work; oil Monday. - . t A West Coast correspondent writes that Vk» ; New River returns have not by any means; com’© up to'expectations, and will not pay ex-) pauses'. The dredge V will be removed tp another part of the olaim, ; The Grey River dredge has been meeting! with a considerable amount of timber, andthe buckets have not been reaching the bot-. tom for some time. Boring experiments will; bo conducted to ascertain the depth of the, ground, the , directors ‘ having decided to: lengthen the ladder. , . s
