THE CITY ABATTOIRS.

INSPECTION OP THE SITE. -. At a meeting, of the City Council last evening, the Mayor reported that on Saturday he had, together with Mr Beakes and several Councillors; visited the proposed site of the city abattoirs. Mr Beakes had been •deputed by the Government, under the provisions of the 1 Public Abattoirs Act, which set forth that the site must be approved by the Government, to inspect the locality. Mr Beakes would forward his report to the Government, and the Government wpuld communicate with the Council in the matter. The Mayor had been informed-of the various sites,, and all matters pertaining to drainage and sewage. He had. no doubt that the site chosen at Sockbui'n would be approved, but, of course, Mr Reakes could offer no opinion at present.
