THE NATIVES RESTLESS. THE GOVERNOR'S HIGH-HANDED ACTIONS. Recent advices received' by the. Premier from Fiji shew that the natives are. in _ a state of unrest, and considerable dissatisfaction has been caused by the action of the Governor, Sir George O'Brien, in deporting natives for making complaints as to their being overworked and overtaxed. Mr Humphrey Berkeley, of Suva, assures Mr Seddon that if Sir George O'Brien deports more of the natives, most*serious disturbances will take place. In another communication, the Premier is informed that some of the islanders have actually been sent to gaol for a month in default of paying fines for being infected with ifagworm.

The whole question of the administration at the Islands was (says the Wellington " Post") discussed by Mr Seddon and the Federal Prime Minister just before the "former left Australia, and it was decided to make representations to the Home authorities in regard to the matter. Consultations are to take place presently between, the Federal Premiers and the Premier of New Zealand in regard to the Islands generally, especially in the light of international relations* , -
