MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

At the usual weekly session of the Reviving Stream Lodge of Good Templars, Bro C. Cummings, C.T., presided. Bros Cummings and Dalton resigned their offices of C.T. and chaplain, and Bro Wilson was elected C.T. and Sister Watson chaplain. A Dutch auction was conducted for the benefit of the lodge. A meeting of the Canterbury Band of Hope Union was held on Thursday night. The president (Mr J. T. Smith) was in the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. Various matters in connection with the forthcoming Easter Monday demonstration were dealt with. It was decided that, in view pf the fact that the Union would be holding a musical and elocutionary contest again this year, it would be advisable to discontinue the recitation .competition in the. Park. It was also decided to have a banner competition again this year: A deputation from the newly-formed Linwood Temperance Brass Band waited upon the Union to know if it could be taken into the Union as a society, and the Union decided that it would most willingly receive it on the same conditions as, the Bands of Hope were received. The quarterly, meeting of the Ridgley Lt.d-’e oi Oddfellows, American Constituwas held 'on Wednesday evening. The N.G., Bro C- Wilkins, presided. There was a full attendance of members. One candidate was initiated into the Order. During recess the fifth round of the quoits tournament was proceeded with. The ordinary meeting of the Foresters’ Court Thistle was held at the Druids’ Hall at Sydenham on Tuesday evening, C.R. Bro C. F. Henry presiding. There was a fair attendance of members and visitors. The Woodwards reported that there were no members on the Sick Fund. One new member was proposed. After the business of the evening bad been disposed of, members spent a pleasant hour at a friendly rramc of cards. The receipts for the evening amounted to £lO ss.
