A special meeting of the Board of Governors of the Timaru High School was held on Tuesday; One of the Board’s tenants waited on the Board and asked for a reduction of rent for an Orari section. An amended syllabus , was . adopted, and” it was decided that the junior exhibitions should be tenable for one year only. Two vacant exhibitions in the Girls’ School were allotted to the two girls next on the marks scale. There was an animated discussion on a suggestion that the committee, in consultation with .the principals, should draw up a scheme of school work to facilitate axi annual' examination of the whole school. Archdeacon Harper and Mr Gibson opposed introducing anything of the nature of standards into the school, as it would fetter the principals in their arx’angements. The proposal that such a scheme should be formulated was held over for further discussion. A request from a parent at Peasant Point for a reduction of the on the ground that her two boys, liil'elling by train, lost an hour and a half school day, was declined with regret. The Board, on the motion of the Chairman, voted £2O towards the cost of a municipal fresh-water swimming bath at the south, end of. the town, to which all school cffildren would be admitted free.
