THE LICENSING ELECTIONS.

CHRISTCHURCH. The following are the nominations for the Christchurch Licensing Committee: Messrs S. S. Blackburhe, J. Hamilton, J. (J. Maddison, T. M’Clatchie, G. G. Stead and F. Trent. With the! exception of Messrs Blackburne and Stead, all tfio'se nominated were members of the old committee. . LYTTELTON. There was very little interest taken in the election of a Licensing Committee at Lyttelton yesterday. The hotels were closed from noon to 7 p.m. The following is the result:—J. S. Monck 771, W. H. R. Dale 769, Mitchell 766, J. M. Douglass 756, S. Willis 731, H. G. Ell 312. There were ten polling booths. The first five candidates, who constituted the old committee, were elected. KAIAPOI.

At Kaiapoi the number of candidates does not exceed the number required, and there was therefore no election. The Prohibition Party took no interest in the election. The names of those who Were nominated are; R. Coup, WfcfDoubledjiy, , r R. Hopkins, J. Daly, and E. ifreldwick; ’ TIMABU. - Two full tickets have been nominated for Timaru.. The Moderates have nominated the members of the present committee, Messrs Grandi, M’Queen, Stuart, Cullmann, and Bowker, and the Temperance Party has nominated the Rev W- Gillies and Messrs A. Mills, W. Kernohan, S. Cain and W. Coe, who are pledged, tty ten o’clock closing.,- V

WANGANUI, March 22.

The licensing elections resulted ,in the return of five temperance candidates pledged to ten o’clock licenses, five candidates representing the 11 o’clock ticket being d'efprj + p,] NAPIER, March 22. Very little interest was manifested in the licensing election. The Temperance Party took no active part, and the publicans’ ticket, consisting of Messrs'" H. Williams, F. G. Smith, C. H. Granby, G. A. MacDonald and F. Sutton, was returned by a large majority over Mr J. B. Fielder, a moderate candidate.

The Palmerston licensing election resulted in the total defeat of the prohibition candidates. The following were elected— Snelson 944, W. T. Wood 935, Rsvenhill 888, Jack 843, D. Grant 842, The defeated candidates were as follow:—Pirani 601, M. Henry 482, J. Stubbs 461, Hodder 453, A. Whitehead 432.

WELLINGTON, March 22.

The Wellington Suburbs licensing election resulted in the return of three moderate and two temperance candidates. DUNEDIN, March 22.

The licensing election to-day elicited but languid interest. The number of voters on the roll was 16,856, but of which not more than 5000 can have voted. The result was the return of the old moderate committee, with a majority of about 680 over the ticket proposed by the Council of Churches. The figures were : —Elected—H.
