FIRES.

[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 22.

A shop in Victoria Street, occupied by Mr Kind Taylor, was destroyed by fire. The insurances were : —On the building, £2,50 in the New Zealand Office; on the stock, which was mostly saved, £2OO in the Commercial Union Company.

About ten o’clock yesterday morning a fire broke out in one of the back bedrooms of a house in Salisbury Street, owned and occupied by Mrs Simm. By the exertions of the Fire Brigade, with their chemical engines, the fire was confined to the three back rooms,, which were gutted, and all the furniture destroyed. The furniture was all removed from the other rooms in the house, and was but little damaged. The nous ■ is insured for £250, and the furniture for £2OO, both in the Northern Office.

Yesterday afternoon, at Rangiora, a cottage in Blackett Street, owned by Mr G. Thompson and occupied by Mr W. Bennett, caught fire underneath the floor. An alarm was given, and the neighbours succeeded in extinguishing the fire before serious damage was done. Tie fire-bells rang, but the services of the brigade were not required. The building was insured in the Standard Office for £75.
