TROTTING CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, July 19

The Trotting Conference met again tonight and spent a considerable time in arranging amendments in the constitution, necessitated by the amalgamation of the two governing bodies. It was decided that the Council should meet monthly, and any member absent from three consecutive meetings should forfeit his seat. The new rules are to come into force next month, when the first election will be conducted. A new rule was passed providing that all default lists submitted by clubs must be approved by the Association before being advertised, in order to prevent the practice of “ringing-in.” A new rule was passed, insisting on all trotting horses being registered with a description, any unregistered animal to be disqualified.

WELLINGTON RACING CLUB. fPna Press Association.] ' WELLINGTON, July 19. The Wellington Racing Club was unfortunate as regards weather for the opening day of the winter meeting. The previous night’s rain had made the course very heavy, and the lawn and saddling paddock were converted into a sea of mud. To make matters worse a cold southerly wind, accompanied by drizzling rain, blew throughout the whole day. Considering the state of the weather, the attendance was good, the Governor, and party being amongst those present. The course was very heavy, and most of the events were easily secured. Shylock had a comparatively easy win in the big event, for which Marina was the popular fancy, and,, making the running from the start, came right away from his field when heads were turned for home, thus proving that his success in the Great Northern Grand National Hurdle Race was no fluke. In the Parliamentary Handicap, Strathnairn was made a strong favourite, but he finished last. In the three last events the horses could not be -distinguished for the greater part of the distance, owing to the misty rain. The sum of £6473 was put through the totalisator, as against £5472 invested on the first day of the whiter meeting last year.
