THE WINTER SHOW.
f ’ The Winter Show was closed at ten o’clock on Saturday evening. The attendance was good throughout the day, and largo at night, when a concert was given by Misses Alice Corrick, Lilian Thompson and Moir, Mrs C. M. Brooke and Messrs G. March and A. Millar. Instrumental items were given by Messrs E. J. Painter, F. Taylor and Miss Jennie-West, who was also blue accompanist of the evening. Mr G. E. Rhodes thanked the public for their attendance.
Owing to the cheap quality of paper used for Chinese newspapers, .and to tire low price of labour, both literary and mechanical, the native papers are issued at an extremely small ■ figure, The price bf the ordinary Shanghai ■ journal is four cash, of about one-tenth,of a penny. " * , Gout is rarely known among the working glasses of Ireland. Their immunity-from this complaint is thought to be due to the fact - that their' food consists largely of potatoes. ■'
