VICTORIA WATER.

The Victoria Water Committee recently met in the City Council Chamber. Mr Humphreys, the chairman, submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure to date, showing receipts £2Bl 5s 5d and expenditure £265 6s, leaving a balance to credit of £ls 19s sd; and he reported sundry further promised donations. The balance-sheet was approved, and satisfaction was expressed at the result achieved by so small an expenditure. The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the committee to Miss Mary Barkas, who had collected a sufficient sum to provide two garden seats, which had been placed in position at the Lake. It was agreed to vote a sum of £3 3s to the Model Yacht Club,, being a proportion of the takings on the opening day. It was decided to strengthen part of the embankment on the south-western side of the lake, and to sink a deep well directly the funds would allow the work to be done by Mr Osborne, who had'promised a liberal subscription to the lake funds. It was further resolved to sow the slopes on the lake side of the banks with grass, and to remove and make use of the present fence to protect the grass in its early growth. A special vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Oakley Archer, who had acted as engineer, and, by whose professional aid the formation of the lake had been so successfully accomplished.
