SALARIES IN THE EDUCATION OFFICE.

• TO THE EDITOR. - Sir,—May I draw attention* through the medium of your valuable paper, to the manner in which office salaries are being increased by the Board of Education. Last week the Secretary’s salary was raised £25 per annum, and, strange to say, the Board found it necessary to notify several school committees that the staff must be reduced. Why ■ the Secretary should be so pointedly favoured by increase of salary it would be very hard to tell. He has undoubtedly the easiest billet in the whole service, and yet is continually having his salary raised, while at the same time teachers’ salaries are mostly decreasing. I would suggest to the Board of Education that they should treat us all alike, and increase all salaries by £25 per annum.—l am, etc., COUNTRY TEACHER.
