THE PUBLIC ACCOUNTS.
[From Oxtk. Cobrespondbnt.] ' WELLINGTON, May 10.
It is stated that the delay in the publication of the public accounts for the .year ending March 31 is nob attributable to the Treasurer's absence from Wellington, but to the fact that the Auditor-General has not yet reported to the Treasury'Department upon his statutory examination of the' accounts, and until that is done they caimot be published. If the Audit Department were efficiently equipped it could have completed its work. No doubt when Parliament meets it will insist upon a reform of the system.
